The Suit

Andy Hahn

I can't wait to be retired.
I'll wear a suit every day;
A nice brown one with a vest
and a hat
perhaps a fedora.
I'll go to the park and play chess
on summer afternoons,
and on winter ones
I'll sit at home reading.
My hobby will be cultural criticism.
I'll divide my time between proselytizing
and condemning.
By then I'll be a Buddhist
but I won't be quite ready for a new life.

A Dress

Sarah Scally

I can’t imagine being retired
I’m too caught up on the job I don’t have
On the blouses I’ll have to wear
The dresses
The heals
I won’t have the time to spend
wasting time
on summer afternoons or winter nights
I don’t know
what I want to be
when I grow up.
I don’t think I’ll be happy in that life.
